Recognizing the Gifts of an ADDor“Sensitive”Child
If your child is having difficulties in school; bored, hypersensitive, distracted and excitable? Has your child been diagnosed as ADD or ADHD? Are you and your family needing help in dealing with these issues?
I am offering my services in assisting you to understand your child and techniques which can help to make life more harmonious. I am a “Sensitive” which through the years has had many “labels”. I chose to get a teaching degree in Art Education at UNC so that I could be effective in a school environment to help children just like me. The education of our young people has been my passion all through college and throughout my life. I have taught Art in high school and elementary settings. I was a founding member of a team of 4 who created The Choice Program at PlatteMiddle School in Boulder, offering contextual education for our middle school children. I have an Art Camp for children
5-12 years old in Hygiene. My goal has been to find the gifts that these children have inside and offer an environment in which these gifts can be revealed. Every child has a special gift that they are bringing to the world and it is our responsibility and our challenge to assist them in bringing this forth.
I have advice and techniques that may assist you in providing an environment that compliments these children and their special needs:
Focusing techniques
Grounding exercises
Creating an environment that supports and nurtures
Diet and nutrition
Exercises and sports
Creative outlets
Passionate pursuits
I am a mother of three healthy, happy, productive, “sensitive” children who are now adults. I have had a variety of learning experiences through the years of raising “sensitives” that could be of value to you. I have dealt with Ritalin and will share my experience. The children of today are challenging us to provide a setting that is more true to who they are. They want meaningful pursuits. They need honest and clear communication. They need boundaries so that they can be free to express themselves. They need to be recognized and not labeled. Our goal as parents and educators should be to bring forth the best in every child. Sessions are $45. per hour.
